We are proud recipients of the Green Flag — the highest international award in environmental education!
Cosmos International School is now officially part of the world’s largest environmental education network — Eco-Schools. The award was granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), represented in Bulgaria by the Blue Flag Movement, after we successfully completed the rigorous 7-step certification process.
Our school has been implementing sustainable environmental practices and building a responsible eco-conscious community since its very foundation:
- We separate waste and nurture a culture of recycling in our students
- We compost and save energy
- We grow einkorn wheat in the fields near the village of Osoitsa — and bake fragrant homemade bread from it in our own kitchen
- We maintain our own organic garden with okra, spinach, sorrel and seasonal herbs — everything grown by the children goes straight into the school menu
- We organise the annual Cosmos Recycles ecological festival, open to children, parents and teachers from across the country
We are proud to be the first school of this kind in a village, surrounded by nature, in the first green municipality in Bulgaria — Gorna Malina!
The Eco-Schools programme works in synergy with UNESCO initiatives, uniting students around the world in hands-on action for nature conservation. With this award, we join a network of over 54,000 schools in more than 100 countries worldwide.
Together, we teach children that caring for our planet is not a lesson — it is a way of life.
