Cosmos International School provides weather data to the public

Students Work with Real Scientific Information in Physics, Chemistry, Geography, and Mathematics Classes

Cosmos International School provides the public with up-to-date meteorological data. This information is available to everyone on the school’s website – https://cischool.bg/ and covers the region of Osoitsa village and the municipality of Gorna Malina.

The data is updated every minute by a weather station located on the school premises. The station is built as part of the national scientific project “Research on the Characteristics of Climatic Conditions in the Village of Osoitsa, Municipality of Gorna Malina.” The project is carried out in collaboration with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) training center and is led by our Physics teacher Hristo Zhelev.

The weather station measures key indicators such as air temperature and humidity, wind speed and direction, atmospheric pressure, and precipitation levels. In addition, it generates databases updated every 10 minutes. The software allows summaries to be created not only for the current day but also on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis, along with various graphs and diagrams.

This enables students from both lower and upper secondary levels to work with real-time scientific meteorological data. The information collected by the station is used not only in Physics Classes but also in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Geography lessons. In this way, high school students learn to analyze and interpret data, relating it to various areas of knowledge and understanding. In Math classes, students study and create problems based on graphs and tables. In Geography sessions, they explore the specific characteristics of the local climate in depth, identify trends, and make forecasts.

“The world we live in is not isolated from itself. That’s why it’s important not only to understand what’s happening — including weather data — but also to be able to apply it across different domains of knowledge. This is a key skill we strive to develop in our students,” explains Hristo Zhelev about the project.

“To place the world in children’s hands and open the doors to science wide — this is the most powerful method of teaching. At our school, the students are true explorers. We’re proud that, thanks to our scientific projects, we have the opportunity to open the door to the world for our students, encouraging them to be curious, thoughtful, and open to new ideas. For us, the limit is not the textbook. The only limit is the power of dreams,” shares Tatyana Zakharieva, Principal of Cosmos International School, about the school’s innovative teaching approach.
