CIS Director quoted by Telegraph newspaper

Screen Children Will Break the System

“Screen children,” as we call those who spend more time in front of various devices, can break the entire education system.

This opinion was expressed to Telegraph by Tatyana Zaharieva, Director of Cosmos International School, in her special interview on the topic.

“According to our research at the school, as well as other Bulgarian and international studies, a large proportion of screen children are children with special needs—learning difficulties and/or behavioral problems. These children will break the education system,” Zaharieva states categorically.

“Through school policies, we work on prevention, and this is the main thing we do in order not to allow excessive screen stimulation,” the director adds, explaining how Cosmos International School addresses the problem at a very early stage through:

  • Effective prevention and minimizing screen time
  • Active daily communication and real teamwork between child–parent–teacher
  • Placing the child at the center of education with the goal of their holistic development
  • Original scientific projects and learning through experience and creativity
  • Meaningful face-to-face communication with others and a 30-minute “mega” recess
  • Daily contact with nature, even when it rains, including sowing oats
  • Biodynamic farming and planting crops to develop awareness of the growth process

How exactly these approaches are applied and how at Cosmos we turn a defect into an effect, you will learn from the full text of the interview below.
