This year\u2019s Green School of Cosmos was scientifically beautiful, unforgettable, and filled with happiness. Every day was an adventure and a source of inspiration, drawn directly from the beauty and mystery of the Rhodope Mountains around Rozhen. We arrived in spring, yet woke up in the middle of winter. But the snowdrifts did not discourage us \u2014 on the contrary, they fueled our spirit for adventure. Full of enthusiasm, the very next day we completed a 7 km hike through the snow and reached the 1,720-meter peak of Mount Rozhen. We admired the purity of the vast landscape and lifted our eyes from the horizon toward the stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We visited the National Astronomical Observatory and got an up-close look at the newest and most modern telescope in Bulgaria. We spoke with scientists about the Universe, planets, comets, and their origins. Afterwards, we descended back into the embrace of the mountain and snow for the journey back to our cosmic camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We took part in a botanical lesson along an educational eco-trail and explored the local flora and fauna. Our brave mountain guides were often the children themselves, navigating with their own natural compass even along the most challenging routes. Older children helped younger ones, the strong supported the weak across mountain slopes and goat trails, and we all became one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We visited not one, but two caves, impressing the speleologists with our knowledge. In the Yagodina Cave, we quickly put mathematics into practice and made a real prediction \u2014 quite seriously \u2014 about when the existing stalagmites and stalactites there would merge into stalagnates. Devil\u2019s Throat Cave amazed us with the thunder of its waters and the mystery of their path back into the depths of the earth. We walked through the Trigrad Gorge and stepped into the role of geologists. We studied various karst formations, discovered the nature and biodiversity of the Rhodopes, and experienced so much more\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet the most valuable part of all was the sense of sharing \u2014 the warmth and acceptance among both young and old, the support, and the togetherness. Throughout every moment of our adventures, children from preparatory group all the way to 11th grade were together. Regardless of differences in age and interests, they communicated and connected as one whole. The force that united them was the mountain and the belief that together we are better. And the memories and true friendships \u2014 they are what will remain with us forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
